I’m turning on RSS for the blog. Joke’s on me, it was on all along. 😄 Regardless I’m a little torn about it, because as I have said (check the Privacy page for a refresher) I track some basic visitor stats using GoatCounter and my very large, but also frail, ego likes knowing if someone actually read this thing. Spicier content creators might call this a praise kink, I’m not sure if that sounds better or worse than ‘fragile ego’ in this context, but I thought it and so now you have to read it. (You’re Welcome)
Anyway, posts here are going to be sporadic at best and so if someone did manage to stumble across this I want to make it as easy as possible for them to find their way back. I was reminded about RSS in a conversation with Grey “Silver Badge” and decided it made sense to enable. I’ll be adjusting the tags and categories, because hugo supports that and maybe it saves you from reading other misunderstandings about spicy content.
Now, we come (finally) to why I am writing this blog post. I expect that most, if not all of my topics are already on the internet, covered in more detail and with more accuracy and rigor than I am likely to produce - but if you happen to land here when you are trying to figure out how to do something, I’d love to know if I was helpful.
Louis Rossman usually signs off from his videos by saying “I hope you learned something.” I like the sentiment, but asking you to pop down in the comments and say you learned something doesn’t feel quite right to me.
Then I remembered XKCD’s Lucky 10000 and I really like that perspective. I’ve worked with people who used TIL (today I learned) or “I was today years old when I learned…” but I want (at least for my blog) anyone who finds something here that they didn’t know before to feel good, like a winner. And I wanna also feel like I helped out.
So, for now I’m going to ask if you find you learned something you didn’t know before, just look at the comment section. If no one has added 🍀(:four_leaf_clover:) to the comments, make it your comment. If someone else already has added it, give that comment an upvote and maybe we can see if XCKD was right about 10,000 people or if maybe there’s a chance for more.
I’ll try to make this into something easier to do and remember, but for now this is the best I got.
Anyway, thanks for reading.
